ABOUT "THE GUILD"
The Musicians and Songwriters Guild of South Carolina is a group of like-minded artists who gather each month to support their craft and receive support as they try to create something worth singing about.
You won't find ego or parliamentary procedure. You will find a diverse collection of people trying to get to the same place by traveling different paths.
Each meeting (usually the second Monday of the month) is kept on track by Vicki Whitehead, who along with Danielle Howle, began this organization in April of 2007. Vicki serves as inspiration, town crier, and trail boss at every meeting; trying to give out information, determine what the members want the Guild to become, and keep a bunch of wandering (and sometimes wondering) souls on track.
The primary focus of each meeting is to provide some working knowledge to help working musicians. A real close second is providing an opportunity to play. If you want to show off, are stumped and want guidance, or just need to practice in front of someone other than your cat, bring your instrument and a song. We will listen.
DONATE: The Musicians & Songwriters Guild of SC is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization! Your donations are tax deductible. We appreciate your support and your donations. To make a donation, Make your check payable to Musicians & Songwriters Guild of SC and mail to 123-C Library Hill Lane, Lexington SC 29072.
JUST IN CASE: Many employers offer matching funds for employees who contribute to charitable organizations. Since we now qualify. (501 c 3) check with your Human Resource people. We might be able to add to the coffers just by being members.

The Guild has created and released several videos.
You can view all released videos by clicking here.

Your CD's On Consignment!
Vicki has negotiated a consignment agreement with the Columbia Convention and Visitors Center Gift Shop to add local music to the shop's selection. Anyone interested should provide Vicki with seven CDs, a 5X7 handbill to be used as a sales flyer, and an 8.5X11 bio for the artist notebook in the gift shop. Vicki's address is:123-C Library Hill Lane, Lexington, SC 29072
Six CDs will be sold and the seventh will be played in the gift shop. CDs will sell for $15 and seventy percent of that will go to the artist. The gift shop keeps the other thirty percent. The guild is acting as an unpaid agent. Call Vicki with any questions.
REMEMBER: Our meetings are always the second Monday night of the month!
The August Guild meeting featured the collaborative efforts of three groups who started with an idea (hotter than it should be) and created music. Each group hammered out a complete song and performed it in front of the other teams. The results were better than they should have been.
Thanks to Charles Whitehead and his company Honeywell for a $500 donation to buy parts to repair guitars and equipment. Your company may offer a matching program for charitable contributions. Check with them and see. We will put the money to good use.
MSGSC Merchandise available: Guitar key chain/bottle opener $3, Tee shirt and Koozie combo $10,(shirts $7 and Koozies $3)
Gospel CD $5. The perfect Christmas gift. All proceeds support Guild projects.
Also consider Guild or Conner Foundation donations in someone's name as a gift for someone on your Christmas list who doesn't need anything or you don't know what to buy.
Trash the Ash is now on Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter. We hope to have the jingles on the website for download soon.
Anyone who has web building chops and would like to contribute, please get in touch with Vicki. There are things MSGSC would like to do to liven up the website and we need technical help.
The Guild would like to establish a fund raising project to benefit performers in need of financial help. We need a chair for the group and suggestions for raising money and distribution.
The MSGSC has started a Musicians Emergency Instrument Closet. We currently have one electric guitar, and amp for loan to anyone who needs a temporary replacement. We are also looking to increase the size of the closet so anyone who has gig ready instruments please get in touch with Vicki.
SONGS NEEDED!
A Christmas CD is still in the works. We still plan on a pre-Christmas release, only next Christmas. Three slots still open!!! Original material and versions of public domain tunes need to be sent to Vicki. Feliz Navidad!!
UPDATED NEWS ON The Guilds "Play IT Again" instrument refurb program: The Guild in partnership with Music Replay of SC (A Partnership between Musicians Supply and Batesburg Leesville High School) will collect band, orchestra, stringed and woodwind for SC children in need of instruments.
Stringed and woodwind instruments are still needed for the guitar project. Pawn shops are filled with guitars. If all Guild members raided the place where they keep the loose change, combined it with a couple of other folks, and bought a guitar from a pawn shop, we would have stringed instruments coming out our ears. Contact for information or to pick up an instrument.
The Guild gave two band instruments to Music Replay of SC to be distributed to McCormick Middle & High School kids in need of instruments. Thanks for the partnership and folks---keep them instruments coming! The need is great! We can do it together! Guild members are making a difference.
John Starino of Starino Photography is now a Guild member and is offering a special photography package rate for members of MSGSC. Contact John at: or
